What is sewer renovation?
The term sewer renovation covers various methods for eliminating pipe damage.
- Repairs: Minor and localized damage can be repaired.
- Renovations: Measures to improve the current functionality of wastewater pipes and sewers while fully or partially incorporating their substance.
- Renewal process: Construction of new wastewater pipes and sewers on the same or a different route, whereby the new installations incorporate the function of the original wastewater pipes and sewers.
These techniques differ from conventional underground pipeline construction in that they are generally trenchless. This means that damaged or outdated wastewater pipes and pipe systems do not have to be laboriously exposed, but can be restored to a perfect, functional condition from the inside by means of sewer rehabilitation. This significantly reduces the time and effort required and therefore also the costs.
The short liner method is used for localized damage, for example due to root ingrowth, ingress of extraneous water or shard formation. The repair material, a glass fiber mat impregnated with epoxy or silicate resin, is transported to the damaged pipe using packers and pressed onto the damaged area using air pressure. The resin hardens within about an hour and thus eliminates the leak.

Our product world
SuS GmbH Schwerin has been developing and selling rehabilitation packers for sewer rehabilitation since 1993. Over the course of this time, a comprehensive range of renovation packers for all dimensions and applications has been developed. Semi-annual type tests (functional test and 3-fold safety) are carried out in cooperation with TÃœV Nord. This enables us to guarantee the consistently high quality of our packers.
All packers are made from natural rubber.
Compared to synthetically produced rubber, this offers a long service life, greater resistance and is also made from a renewable raw material.
The pipe to be rehabilitated is cleaned before work begins. Subsequently, in the case of a repair using a short liner acc. ATV-DVWK-M 143 Part 7, the glazing of vitrified clay pipes over a length of at least 30 cm at the beginning of the repair area and at least 30 cm to the end of the repair area so that a force-fit connection between the two materials can be achieved. Concrete pipes are milled.
A mat soaked in a fast-curing multi-component resin mixture is folded using a special technique and wound onto a short liner packer. The packer is pushed or pulled to the defective point in the pipe with an attached push rod under camera observation. Once the packer with the rolled-up mat is positioned in the right place, it is pressurized with compressed air so that the resin-impregnated mat is pressed against the inner wall of the damaged pipe. After a curing time of up to 2 hours, the resin is hardened and bonded to the old pipe. The compressed air is released from the packer and it is removed from the pipe duct.
For quality control of the work carried out, the repair can then be checked using a camera or, in individual cases, a leak test can be carried out.
